Ihab Matar (born on December 7, 1980) is a member of the Lebanese Parliament representing the Second Northern District. He is also the chairman of the Ihab Matar Development Group (IMD) and the founder of the “Lebanese Gathering” in Australia. He is an academic in the field of medical sciences, possessing a visionary leadership outlook, determination, and commitment to achieving social responsibility and community development programs. Additionally, he has over 15 years of experience in business management and sustainability, supporting entrepreneurs. He has a distinguished political and diplomatic persona with notable efforts in managing social responsibilities and charitable initiatives. Furthermore, he dedicates his time and efforts to ensure the highest quality of life and equal opportunities for his community and nation.
Matar was born on December 7, 1981, to a Sunni Muslim family in North Lebanon – Tripoli. He holds a degree in Security Operations and a diploma in Information Technology (Network Engineering) from Alpha Beta Colleges in Sydney, Australia. Additionally, he holds a Certificate in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) from the Australian Industry and Training Institute, a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Central Queensland University, a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences (with honors), and a Ph.D. in Philosophy (Human Anatomy) from the University of New South Wales.
In 2002, Matar joined an armed patrol and served as a stationary guard at train stations in the Greater Sydney area, New South Wales, Australia. In 2004, he became an armed guard and crowd controller with G4S Security. He worked as a security supervisor at A1 Protection Security in New South Wales until 2005, and later served as an overnight monitor with CHUBB Security in Lane Cove, NSW in 2005.
Matar was the founder and CEO of IPS Security Pty Ltd in Liverpool, New South Wales, for a decade until 2017. He also founded and chaired the board of Quest Effect Pty Ltd in Hornsby, NSW, since 2009. Finally, he worked as an instructor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales in Kensington, New South Wales, for three years starting in 2018 before deciding to enter Lebanese politics.
